Food For Thought

Motivating Others

More than anything else, most people respond to another person’s “belief” in them. If you truly convey your belief in someone else’s ability, they can achieve almost anything. I’ve always known that my own skills and belief in myself could help me achieve almost anything. But when you put that same energy into believing in someone else, you convey a power that is transformed from you to that person without that person even suspecting that they could ever fail at anything. The real key to “motivating” someone else is to believe in your own soul that this person can achieve greatness. Try it, it really isn’t that hard to do. Then, you must convey that greatness in a way that doesn’t appear condescending. Believe it yourself. Say it out loud so that the other person actually hears it. You’ll be amazed at what your belief in other people’s abilities can do! Just think about your vision of any “successful” person you choose. It could be anybody. It really doesn’t matter. Now, ask yourself if that person really achieved their “greatness” all by themselves or did they have someone who served as their “motivator”? If you become that “motivator” for someone as “insignificant” as your own child, you may also create “greatness” some day. Not all of us are on this earth for the glory of being “great”. Most of us are here because we have the capacity to “motivate” others. Find a person who you believe in and help them achieve their greatness.

Patience Is A Virtue

It's so bad when you see someone so impatient despite where he or she may be. In one of the seminars I attended, I saw a lady that was so impatient with the participants in the seminar. S he was so intolerant. Get up to ask any of the speakers a question which they were eager to answer and dear make a little comment (not even a sentence) before proceeding. She will shout mannerlessly at you to go straight to the question. Imagine her shouting at a man who got up to ask questions not to ask irrelevant ones. Oh my gush! It was so embarassing. A woman for that matter even learned at that. Who on earth made her a moderator? I wondered. All I concluded was that patience is a virtue which every humanbeing ought to have. A little patience can turn situations arround and make a great impact on someone's life. All our actions are being monitored by those arround us who are influenced by them so you have a choice. To let your life be of a positve influence to those arround you or otherwise.

Don't Cling So Tightly The The Past

With each new sunrise we are given the opportunity to start fresh and paint the canvas that is our life. Provided we are willing to acknowledge that we can do so. That's right, no matter how many things may have gone wrong for you up to this point in your life, if you're willing to do so you can start over and put any negative events behind you. Your past doesn't have to define your future -- as long as you make the commitment not to allow it to do so. The sooner you get to where you can move past life's shortcomings the sooner you will be able to start taking more advantage of the vast opportunities that life affords those who don't allow themselves to stay stuck in the past. As the saying so eloquently goes... The past is in the past, the future we do not know yet, and the present is a gift we can give ourselves. Perhaps that's not exactly how you heard it said, but I think the point is still clear. Here's wishing you all the best as you make the move towards leading your own personal definition of success. May you find the happiness and achievements that are yours.

Your Legacy-What Will You Leave Behind? Part-1

We all begin life at GO, and all roads lead to a final rendezvous; the difference is what we do en route. Paths chosen, actions taken, and a host of decisions made lead ultimately to a unique legacy.It's non-negotiable: You will leave a legacy. The question is not whether you'll leave a legacy but what legacy you will leave.Your legacy comprises both ends and means. Is winning really winning when you are ashamed of how victory came? The means by which you move through your life provide the working platform that supports your goals. Style, courtesy, honesty, respect-these are the qualities that make for an inspiring legacy. The way you live your life has an effect on how you are remembered. How can the ends of your efforts be respected if the means make you want to blush in embarrassment?Thinking of your legacy is like starting anything new. You are either gung-ho or baffled. To break through the legacy blocks, close your eyes and envision the outcome of a successful life- our successful life. What do you see? What do you hear? Who are you with? How do you feel?This picture may start a bit fuzzy, but stick with it. Contemplation brings clarity, and when the picture is in focus, study what you see-your legacy.As you age, the clock and calendar force you to make a move. Time does not permit dallying with options. Your goals must be clear, responsibilities fulfilled, intentions and actions honorable. You must decide: If not this way, there is no other way. Otherwise, kiss the legacy you envision goodbye

Your Legacy -What Will You Leave Behind?-Part 2

You can dodge the questions for quite some time. Why am I here? What will I leave behind? But, eventually, we all reach our own philosophical puberty and realize that these questions call for-in fact, demand-answers. To arrive at the point that you think seriously about your legacy, you must first reach a level of reality and commitment that represents an eternity to follow.Retire into yourself and think. The wonderful part of considering your legacy is the clarity it brings to daily decisions. Each decision moves you closer to or further from your legacy. Your legacy offers advice on how to live in the present in order to be remembered well when you are gone.Make this life of yours into a work of art. Your legacy is a self-portrait, the signature of your life's presence. It will be summed up in a few words-let those words be good and true. Remember, they will talk about you when you are gone.We only live once, but once is enough if we do it right. Live your life with class, dignity, and style so that an exclamation, rather than a question mark, signifies it!So what legacy awaits you? When you take your final bow, who will you be? How will you enter eternity? Will you be just a footnote in history? Every day the plot thickens, the cement hardens, the mystery deepens. Live to answer and honor these questions, because when it comes to your legacy, everything counts!EverythingCounts!

CTO Seminar

Friends, I'm so sorry I have'nt updated my post for some days. I was busy and even this week, I have to attend an American exhibition here in Nigeria named CTO (Communication Telecommunitication Office). Yesterday, we had a very nice time as I had the opportunity of seeing some dignitaries as they spoke in the seminar. Of all that spoke, Prof' Manny Aniebonam, the president of NITPA ( Nigerian Information Technology Proffessionals In The Americas) really said things that really encouraged me. He made us know that there is a great market in Nigeria and encouraged the youths to take charge as young enterpreneurs by seizing the opportunities which most Nigerians don't see but instead choose to run out of the country. Another person that spoke was Marc Schwartz. He is the CEO of spectracum USA/consultant CORE MAP.
After the seminar we (my friends and I) went to check out our stand for the exhibition taking place today. I'll give you feedback of the events today but I challenge you to be enterpreneurs today.

Quote Of The Week

"Business is a game. The minute you think of it any differently it ceases to be fun and immediately begins to control your life and ultimately drives you crazy with wild obsessions & eventually ruins your family life. Keep things in perspective. First family, second friends, and third your business. Practice this and you'll be much happier for it. And your business will be much happier as well."

Money Is Not Everything But Success Is

Peole are falsly made to believe that money is all that really matters in life. Obviously money isn't but success is. Consider having all the money you can ever think of and yet you are not successful in all aspects of life.But I do believe that success IS everything.First you need to succeed to survive. We must take the seasons and learn how to use them with the seed, the soil and the rain of opportunity to learn how to sustain ourselves and our family. But then second is to then succeed to flourish in every part of your life. Good question to ask mature people "If you could do better should you?" And I thing almost everybody would answer the question in the positive. If you could improve your health shouldn't you do that? If you can learn more shouldn't you do that? If you could earn more and share more, shouldn't you do that? If you can improve your relationships and spirituality shouldn't you do that? And I think that is what success is really all about. It is not just a destination that is set for everybody to try and go for.
It is like Zig said, "improving in every area of your life to see if you can't with satisfaction at the end of the day, week, month and year and say 'I have made excellent progress this year, for myself, for my family, for my business, my career and my health.'". I think that kind of success everybody recognizes is legitimate and something we should all strive for.When you are successful, the money will come or else how will it come.Interesting phrase in the bible that says strive for perfection - not that we can ever reach it. But it is in the striving, to be a little bit better today than yesterday, in our speech, our language, our health, everything we can possibility think of that is success.

Motivational Poem- Don't Quit

When things go wrong as it sometimes will;
When the road you're trudging seems uphill;
When the funds are low, and the debts are high;
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh;
When care is processing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don;t quit.

Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the cloud of doubt;
And you can never tell how close you are;
It may be near when it seems afar.
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things go wrong that you mustn't quit.

Become A Good Observer

We must never allow a day to pass without finding the answers to a list of important questions such as: What is going on in our industry? What new challenges are currently facing our government? Our community? Our neighborhood? What are the new breakthroughs, the new opportunities, the new tools and techniques that have recently come to light? Who are the new personalities that are influencing world and local opinion? We must become good observers and astute evaluators of all that is going on around us. All events affect us, and what affects us leaves an imprint on what we will one day be and how we will one day live.
One of the major reasons why people are not doing well is because they keep trying to get through the day. A more worthy challenge is to try to get from the day. We must become sensitive enough to observe and ponder what is happening around us. Be alert. Be awake. Let life and all of its subtle messages touch us. Often, the most extraordinary opportunities are hidden among the seemingly insignificant events of life. If we do not pay attention to these events, we can easily miss the opportunities. So be a good observer of both life and the world around you.

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

Why Is There No Change?

The obvious reasons things don’t change is that you yourself refuse to make a change. Why do we fear change? Here are a few reasons: fear, comfort zone, complacency, waiting for inspiration and so forth. Now most of us our consciously aware of the reasons, but yet we seem to ignore their hold on our ability to move forward and change.I don’t believe in venting, I believe in re-inventing oneself in order to get what you want. Reinventing means changing the way you do things. It means changing the way you approach life and business. It means stepping back, analyzing and then planning your way to success and not leave it in the hands of providence.You shouldn’t reach out for help. You should reach within. You, yourself have the answers to what you want and how to get it. You just haven’t reached that critical point of saying, “I can’t take this no more. No matter the cost, something has to and will change.” You are wondering how things will change. It's as simple as these.
Define your objectives. Define your financial goals. Define the timeframe. Define your lifestyle. And above all, don’t let life define you. Until you have a clear outcome in your mind (i.e., what you want to happen and the position you want to be in) you will continue to ask “Why?” things aren’t happening for you.

Pray-It's The Master Key

One thing we can never do too much is to pray. We can never say we've prayed enough but we can can qualify someone who doesn't pray as prayerless. The difficulties you are facing, do you think they are overwhelming? The problems you are confronted with, do you think they are unbearable and you prayed but you are thinking of giving up? Still continue praying because I am very sure there is still balm in Gilead. Keep praying because you never can tell what the next push you give will result to. Luke went to play lottery with 100 naira. He played till all he had left was 5 naira yet he won nothing so he decided to quit. Turning to go disapointed, a friend of his met him and encouraged him to keep playing stressing that if he could affford to play 95 naira, what else is preventing him from playing the 5 naira he was taking home. Luke played and wow!!, he won the jackpot. I don't mean you should go and play lottery but don't you think that if luke had given up would he have won the jackpot? Obviously not. So keep praying and doing so believe in God answering your prayer. Even the Bible says that some ask and don't receive because they ask wrongly. Are you praying without faith? Definitely you are not making any head way. Don't give up. Keep praying.

Plan Ahead

One important thing successful men will answer when asked their technique is that they plan ahead. The future holds so much uncertainties and that is the reason why you should make plans for tommorrow today.You can't just put all your eggs in one basket likewise you don't count your chickens before they are hatched. Pick up a pen and paper and write them down starting from your short term to long term goals. Writting it, it becomes a goal but saying it or just having it in your mind, it is only a wish. A man building a house makes plan for it first. Even in the cause of building the house, he does'nt just build it. He knows that sometimes there may be heavy rain or even boisterous wind therefore, he makes use of quality materials. What can we say of you today? Are you like the man above or are the type that built without adequate planning i.e livivg without thoughts about the future.You have the power to decide.

Building Self Confidence

Self confidence is that inner feeling of capability that makes you do things with surety. An athlete about to run a race has that self confidence within him that he can win that race. After reading hard for the promotional exam, George was confident that he will pass. Gaining confidence requires a lot of commitment because you should be able to withstand criticism from any angle. You need to accept that you are good enough to carry out a particular task or else lack of confidence in your abilities will not make you progress. With confidence, you see opportunities and possibilities where others see difficulties. Self confidence will bring out the best of you by making you challenge yourself. I was going to my friend's place one morning when I saw a girl of about 6 years old whom the mother was taking to school .On getting to the school gate, the woman gave her daughter her lunch box, kissed her goodbye and turned to go when the little girl called out "Mummy, I'm going to pass my exam". Everybody turned around to see who made such a statement of self confidence. The woman herself was surprised and wondered what made her daughter have so much courage and faith. All she could say was a big "Amen". Do you think you can challenge the little girl in self confidence?

Stop Making Excuses

Stop making excuses on why you failed no matter how reasonable you think it is because you are only defending the failure.Excuse is a well planned lie.Excuses make you not to see the future cus you are stagnated on your point of failure.Joy always give excuses when she failed in class,excuses when she could'nt finish her chores before her mom comes back. With such as a way of life,excuses has prevented her from seeing why other people pass in class.All she knows is that during any forth coming examination or even test,there are those who are bound to make it but she's definitely not one of them.Asked why she conditioned her mind to such she says they are more brilliant than she is meaning she is not briliant therefore she cannot and does'nt think she will pass.My dear,if you are a victim of such situation ?Always bear in your mnd that nobody has a monopoly of knowledge.If others are making it big,take it as a challenge.Only if joy could stop giving excuses for her failure and create a strong image of herself succeeding,she will make a headway.

Initiative-A Rare Quality

Napoleon Hill described initiative as that "exceedingly rare quality that prompts -nay,impels a person to do that which ought to be done,without being told to do so." Elbert also expressed himself on the subject of initiative in these words." The world bestows its big prizes , both in money and hours,for one thing and that is initiative. Initiative is doing the right thing without being told." Enthusiasm is the lubricant that oils the machinery of action. Kick The Closed Door Open

Anyone who does a great job consistently, over and over, kicks the doors of opportunity in all directions open. Such a person will be hired, paid well, promoted, advanced and given additional responsibilities because there are so few of them.
Make a Decision Today -You can put your life and career into an upward trajectory by making the decision, today, that you are going to become one of the best time managers in your field. And in this session, you will learn how to do it. Benjamin Franklin once wrote, "Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of."
Exploit Your Most Precious Recourse -Time is your most precious resource. It is all you really have. It is your life. As long as you have lots of time, you can do almost anything. I mean anything possible all you have to do is manage your time.
Start This Very Minute -The time for you and I to begin to appreciate how valuable and precious each minute is right now, not a later time when our minutes and hours are draining away. Don't procastinate,Take action now.Don't hesitate a moment .Kick the door to opportunities open.

Fight The Enemy Within

We are not born with courage, but neither are we born with fear. Fears, even the most basic ones, can totally destroy our ambitions. Fear can destroy fortunes. Fear can destroy relationships. Fear, if left unchecked, can destroy our lives. Fear is one of the many enemies lurking inside us.The act of indifference is another enemy to be battled.It prevents you from acting when you ought to thereby making you miss great opportunities that may never come arround again.Think of those times you are undescided in things you should have stood firm at,those times you doubt even when you see possibilites lying ahead of you. Doubting even the truth itself,What of those times you worry over unecessary things?Worry weakens you both physically and spiritually. All these and many more are the enemies within that must be foought and won so as to be free within and without. Battle with the enemy. Battle with your fears. Build your courage to fight what's holding you back, what's keeping you from your goals and dreams. Be courageous in your life and in your pursuit of the things you want and the person you want to become.

Failed? Get Up!

Most parents experience the joy of watching their children turn over, then crawl, then stand up and then take those first steps. With outstretched arms they stand two or three steps away and encourage the little one to come to them. Chances are about three trillion to one that when the baby falls down the parent is not going to say, "Okay, you had your chance - you blew it! So don't you ever try to walk again!" That's absurd, but isn't it equally absurd to think we can accomplish major things in our lives without experiencing some reversals of some kind? We all need to remember that failure is an event, not a person, that success is a process and not just an instant happening. Few succeed overnight. Instead, they succeed over time.All of us need to remember there is a vast difference between failing in an event and failing in life. Once we understand that, our chances for success substantially increase. We need to remember that winners are people who got up one more time than they were knocked down. Think about it, keep getting up and I'll SEE YOU AT THE TOP!Coiled from Zig Ziggler's Something Else To Smile About.

Food For Thought

"The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being. His heart withers if it does not answer another heart. His mind shrinks away if he hears only the echoes of his own thoughts and finds no other inspiration."
Pearl Sydenstricker Buck

Quote Of The Week

" Another benefit that comes from conquering your fears is that you can look at the world from out of a half full glass instead of a half empty one. This will result in the fact that the world is seen in a positive way, thus as a place of opportunities instead of threats; opportunities that can be seized, instead of threats that have to be countered and of which we need to defend ourselves. Seizing opportunities means taking the offensive, thus gaining ground. Defending against threats means maintaining on the defense, and thus not gaining ground, merely at the best keeping what we have."

Guest Of The Week; Dale Carnegie

"Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves." ~ Dale Carnegie The father of the self-help movement, Dale Carnegie (1888-1955) knew all about failure. Born in poverty on a Maryville, Missouri farm, he failed at everything he tried: college, farming, teaching, acting, sales, and journalism. And, to top it all, he lost all his savings in the stock market crash of 1929. All that failure taught him optimism. "First ask yourself: What is the worst that can happen? Then prepare to accept it," he said. "Then proceed to improve on the worst." "For the good" of his soul, Carnegie studied failure... and success. He researched the success of his heroes-- Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin, gathered quotations and anecdotes, then wrote his famous self-help book How to Win Friends & Influence People (1936). "You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years of trying to get other people interested in you," he revealed. An estimated 50 million copies of Carnegie's books havebeen sold in 38 languages. Today his training courses continue to thrive. "It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about," he said.

Be Courageous And Act -Part 2

If you act, you will find that you will accomplish far more than if you waited endlessly.Here are five short rules by Dale Carnegie guranteed to increase your fortitude.

  1. Act as if you were courageous.This makes you a bit braver, as if one side of yourself had been challenged and wished to show it was not wholly afraid.
  2. Pause to reflect that others have had to face great discouragements and great obstacles and have overcome them. And what others have done,surely you can do.
  3. Remember that your life forces move in a sort of rhythm and as you feel depressed without without the power to face life, you may be at the bottom of your trough; If you will keep up with your courage, you will probably swing out of it by the very forces which the moments swing you.
  4. Remember you feel more discouraged and down cast at night than during the daylight hours.Courage comes from the sun.
  5. Courage is the measure of a big soul.
